Looking after 925 Sterling Silver and Gold-plated sterling silver Jewellery

Sterling silver is prone to tarnishing and jewellery pieces will experience discoloration over time due to factors such as exposure to moisture, chemicals and air. Unfortunately, tarnish is an inevitable occurrence but here are some precautionary measures you can take to ensure your pieces last longer. 

Start by Reducing your Exposure To Chemicals

Looking after your jewellery starts at the beginning of your day. Exposure to soaps, perfumes and lotions, including fake tan, hand-sanitiser and deodorant/body sprays, can result in tarnishing your jewellery over a longer period of time.

To prevent this we suggest waiting some minutes for any of the above to settle after applying, before putting on your jewellery. And don’t forget to remove your jewellery if you’re reapplying throughout the day.

Remove Regularly 

We love wearing our jewellery every day. So to keep your pieces looking their absolute best we highly recommend you remove your jewellery every time you wash, sanitise your hands, exercise and shower.

Storing your Jewellery 

Where you store your jewellery when you are not wearing it is essential to keeping your pieces lasting longer.  It’s best to store your jewellery in a clean dry place, such as a jewellery box or a fabric lined case. If possible, keep your jewellery in an airtight container, out of direct sunlight to prevent fading or oxidisation.

If you don’t have anywhere to store your jewellery, the fabric pouch your jewellery comes in is a great ‘in-between’ place to store your jewellery. Please note we do not recommend using our packaging for long-term storage.

When storing your pieces, we recommend that you keep the same metals together as mixing silver and gold-plated jewellery can result in tarnishing. But don’t worry, styling the two metals together each day won't cause any harm. 

Cleaning Your Jewellery

You should polish your jewellery every few months. Being gentle is key! We recommend using a microfiber cloth or a silver polishing cloth. No other products or chemicals are recommended for gold-plated jewellery. Silver pieces can be cleaned gently using warm soapy water.

Our rings are available in several sizes. You might already know your ring size for the finger you’d like to wear your new ring on. If you do, check the table below to find the closest match.

IF YOU DON’T KNOW YOUR RING SIZE, THERE ARE A COUPLE OF TRICKS TO HELP FIND OUT…

Option 1 - Measure the diameter

If you already have a ring that fits the finger you’d like to wear your new ring on, you can measure the internal diameter of the ring. Do this by placing your ring on top of a ruler and taking the measurement from the internal centre left hand side to the internal centre right hand side.

That measurement is called the internal diameter.

Take a look at the Diameter column in the table and find the closest match in mm to your measurement. Again, size up if you’re in between two sizes.

Option 2 - Measure the circumference

If you don’t have a ring that fits already, you can find out the circumference of your finger. The circumference is the measurement all the way around your finger. To do this you’ll need a piece of string, ribbon or paper, a pen and a ruler.

1. Find a piece of string/ribbon or strip of paper.
2. Wrap it around the base of your finger.
3. Use a pen to mark the point on the string/ribbon/paper where it overlaps, forming a complete circle.
4. With a ruler, measure the length from the starting end of the  string/ribbon/paper to the pen mark.
5. Use the chart to determine your ring-size. Size up if you’re in between two sizes.

First and most important of all, stainless steel is 100% recyclable!  Our stainless steel jewellery does not tarnish, discolor or turn your skin green. It is also hypo-allergenic making it a great choice for someone whose skin is sensitive to metal. 

Another good thing about stainless steel jewellery is that its look lasts longer than sterling silver. Whether you shower with it or pour on lotions, the color stays the same. The golden tone may turn slightly darker after wearing, but it’ll not fade. Which makes it durable to wear through any activity, from running to swimming laps!
